So you want to be a vet

 

 

Dr. Bristow graduated from Illinois in 1968 and served as an army veterinarian for 3 years before going into private practice.  He worked one year in Altamont before working with Dr. Stowe.  In 1973, Dr. Gehrig and Dr. Bristow founded the Greenville Veterinary Clinic.  Dr. Bristow’s interests include equine reproduction and dairy herd health.  He spends free time at the farm in Girard and fishing.  His other interests include collecting Hopalong Cassidy memorabilia, Indian artifacts, and researching genealogy. 

 

 

Dr. Gehrig graduated from Illinois and founded the Greenville Vet Clinic with Dr Bristow in 1973.  He is now retired and spends time baling hay, taking care of his cattle and sheep, and spending time with his wife. 

 

 

Dr. Ostrom graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003 and has been a proud member of the Greenville Veterinary Clinic team since 1998.  Her interests include beef and dairy herd health, equine and companion animal dentistry, and bovine reproductive ultrasound.  She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, son, two cats and doing any type of outdoor activities.  Away from work, she is a photography enthusiast, and a cooking and quilting student.      

 

Dr. Hemker graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.   After graduation, she began working at the Greenville Veterinary Clinic.  She enjoys equine dentistry, dermatology, and surgery.  Along with her husband, they care for three dogs and three horses.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, riding horses, and playing the piano. 

 

Becky, our office manager,  graduated from Kaskaskia College in 1995, and received her certificate from the LPN program.  She has worked in the field of Veterinary Medicine since 1990 and in this practice since 2004.  She enjoys spending her free time with her two boys, family and friends.  She also enjoys scrapbooking.

 

 

Jill started working here in 2005. She is usually at the reception desk, but occasionally assists the doctors in the exam rooms. In her free time she enjoy playing tennis, watching movies, and spending time with Skittles, her St. Bernard.

 

 

Melba was hired in 1989 to help with the accounting.  When not spending her free time with her grandchildren, great-grandson and husband of 46 years, she is taking care of her horses, dogs, and cats.

 

 

Nicole has been an employee here off and on since 2002 but started full time in 2008.  As a graduate of Illinois State University in 2007, she enjoys utilizing her biology degree.  She is most often at the reception desk or assisting the doctors in the exam room.  In her free time she enjoys playing with and crocheting sweaters for her Yorkie puppy, Disney. 

 

 

Mary Ann has worked in the veterinary field for several years and truly enjoys working with the animals.  She’s most likely to be working in surgery and helping with afternoon appointments.   Mary Ann and her husband enjoy spending time their family and friends, including four children and four grandchildren.

 

 

Shari has been in the veterinary field for 18 years and has been back at Greenville Veterinary Clinic since 2008.  She spends most of the working day in the exam rooms or as a surgery tech.  Shari and her husband have 3 children,  2 border collies, and two grandsons.  She loves to hike in the mountains and spend time with family and friends.

 

 

Betty started working here in March of 2000.  She helps in the kennels, surgery, and with appointments.  She also has the responsibility of laboratory equipment maintenance.  Betty and her husband also farm and raise beef cattle.  Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and pets. 

 

 

Amanda started here in 2006 and spend her time where the doctors need her most, whether it be out in the truck helping with large animals or back in the kennel with cats and dogs. In her free time, Amanda is usually playing with her daughter or riding 4-wheelers with her friends.

 

 

Julie began working here in 2008 as a part of her FFA proficiency project. She has spent her time where the doctors thought she could be the best help, which includes both the large and small animal areas. She is an active member of my FFA and 4-H clubs.  Julie plans on studying pre-vet at Kansas State.
